Best N95 Masks (Respirators)
My favorite mask has been the 3M Aura Mask. Based on some of the tweets below, I have ordered 3 boxes of Trident masks. Ordering 3 boxes (20 masks each) allowed me to have free shipping.
Yep those things are currently the best exposure reduction in the dataset by far.

Air pressure drops are about the same. The solid pressure by the seal on the face is more intense in the case of Drager 1920/1930/1950. Probably easier to nap in Aura than Drager1900s.

Basically people don’t understand what NIOSH N95 means:
— Fit Test the Planet (@FitTestMyPlanet) May 21, 2023
Does the material filter?
-Check
Does it have headbands instead of earloops?
-Check
Does it actually reduce exposure on typical faces or anybody’s face at all?
-It doesn’t say we have to check that! Approved!
That fact… https://t.co/kDnrqbKMPo

Stapled Head Strap Wellbefore – best black preconfigured mask. Problem: doesn’t ship to Europe. Tension on the upper headband is too high for large diameter heads.
3M 9334CN+ – Highest adversarial exposure reduction floors in the KN95 dataset right now… https://t.co/LPtQ2pncLY
Black mask update – the new Wellbefore double-headband KN95s are a distant but solid third place behind iMask3 and iMask2. It has some issues, but it’s going in the right direction. Obviously better than all the earloop Wellbefores, better than all the BNX’s, Powecoms, etc. Its… pic.twitter.com/gFRosB5zZn

Best Masks for Kids and Petite Adults
Reminder that VFlex Smalls are not the smallest high-end respirators. They might be tighter than Auras (despite being longer overall) but VFlex smalls are looser than Trident S and XS. If VFlex 9105S or 1804S is too big, try a Trident RTCFFP2 S (second one from the bottom). pic.twitter.com/M8E4XY3TiQ

Evidence Masks Work
New mask thread. Addresses
— Trisha Greenhalgh (@trishgreenhalgh) February 26, 2023
– Why so much controversy?
– Airborne transmission
– RCTs of masks – strengths/weaknesses, community, healthcare settings
– Meta-analyses – gold standard or lazy lumping?
– Non-RCT evidence – why is it needed, what does it show?

1/ I'm tired of hearing the contrarians talking about how masks don't work as protective devices against respiratory diseases as our nation's pediatric hospitals are full of children sick with RSV/Flu and COVID continues to be the 3rd leading cause of death. A thread.🧵

Given the recent conclusion by @DrMaryTBassett that masking is low-cost, effective, and mitigates the impacts of structural racism, what is @GovKathyHochul’s reason for lifting mask requirements? We’re in a one-way masking world now. Therefore, it’s time to upgrade your respirators. Cloth and surgical masks (and even some KN95s and N95) simply won’t suffice.

What does it mean when we say a pathogen is airborne? It means you inhale it through your nose & mouth. It lingers in the air even after people have left a specific area or room. This is why a high quality mask prevents you from catching an airborne illness.
